Danby Lodge National Park Centre is a special place for families to have fun. The open space, outdoor activities and opportunity to spend time together makes it perfect for children and grown-ups alike. Here’s what not to miss!
1. Discover the wish dragon and woodlings
Say hello and clamber aboard our large, friendly dragon. Beyond that, explore the creatures of Crow Wood. The secretive woodlings have made it their home and if you’re quiet, you might be able to find them!

2. #2Minute litter pick
We’d love for you to grab a litter picker and do your bit. Hopefully there’s not too much to find but it’s a great way to have a stomp about and feel good about your actions afterwards.
3. Danby Den
Our new, outdoor adventure play area is a huge hit with all ages. There’s swings and slides a-plenty, climbing ropes, a model ranger van and zip wires. With many accessible elements, we hope to inspire the younger generation to enjoy the outdoors.

4. Reflective area
Escape from the action and take a moment. Listen to trickling water, the buzz of bees and beautiful birdsong whilst you embrace nature around you. If you wander to the top of the terraces, you’ll be rewarded with a fantastic view.

5. Messy play
For the mud lovers amongst us, don’t miss the mud kitchen to conjure up filthy pots and pans. Just near the boardwalk, on the Lodge Loop, you’ll find the welly wander to trudge your way around too.
6. There’s lots indoors too
Inside isn’t just a wet weather option. Don’t miss the climbing cave; build an arch or drystone wall; operate live cameras on the bird feeders, the salmon run challenge, ball run and lots more!

7. Be inspired by art
Our Inspired by… gallery is a wonderful space to soak up creativeness and admire art based on the landscape. See our current exhibition programme and book yourself into a creative workshop, running throughout the year.
8. in the Wilde
New for 2025! Enjoy tasty food and drink, served with a smile. From delicious brunch options to great coffee and cake, we can guarantee you’ll be impressed.

9. Trails around the grounds
There’re always outdoor trails available to get minds ticking and legs moving! Check out our family events page for more information on the current trail.

In terms of value, it’s hard to beat. Entry is free, you just need to pay for parking (£3.80 up to 2 hours or £6 all day). Save money and return throughout the year by purchasing a frequent user permit (£30).
